The Holy Spirit – Who Is He?

Who is the Holy Spirit?

Consider and study these two points.  For those who have questions, please e-mail us.

The Holy Spirit is a spiritual being.

  • He spoke with man (Mark 13:11; Luke 12:12; Acts 1:16; 10:19-20; 13:2,4; 15:28; 16:6-7; 1 Tim. 4:1; Heb. 3:7; 10:15).
  • People lied to Him (Acts 5:3-4).
  • He has emotions, he is grieved by our stubbornness and sin (Gen. 6:3; Isa. 63:10; Eph. 4:30; 1 Thes. 5:19), He is tested by our dishonesty (Acts 5:9), and He is insulted by our apostasy (Acts 7:51; Heb. 10:29; Psalm 106:33)
  • The Holy Spirit loves (Rom. 15:30).
  • The Holy Spirit comforts (Acts 9:31).

The Holy Spirit exhibits and possesses all the attributes of Deity.

  • He was often associated with the Father and the Son as a separate distinct part of the Diving Being (2 Cor. 13:14; Matt. 3:16; 28:19; Mark 12:36).
  • He is omnipresent (Psalm 139:7).
  • He is omniscient (Isa. 40:13).
  • He is omnipotent (Matt. 12:28; Luke 1:35; John 1:16-18; Rom. 15:13,19; 1 Cor. 2:4-5).
  • He is eternal (Heb. 9:14).
  • He was involved in the Creation (Gen. 1:2; Job 33:4).
  • He is directly working for our salvation (2 Cor. 13:14; Rom. 15:16; 1 Peter 1:2).
  • He revealed the words to the writers of the Bible (John 14:26; 16:13; 1 Cor. 2:10-12).
  • He decided which Christians received which spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12:3-11).
  • He made sure that the sincere seeker and the gospel teacher met (Acts 8:29; 10:19-20; 16:6-10).

After studying the passages above, you should be able to see that not only is the Holy Spirit a distinct being with intellect and emotions, but much more than that you should see that He demonstrated and exhibited all the qualities and attributes of Deity.
